Leucaena leucocephala Weed Map - Goondaloo Creek
This map is intended to determine the scale of the issue by mapping the heavily infested areas and support us in raising the profile of the issue to the greater community.
Goondaloo Creek originates in Mount Stuart and extends down the southern side of the University and through the Townsville Hospital, then under University Drive entering the Ross River at the Palmetum Gardens. The Creek is an important wildlife corridor for wildlife and native fish.
Leadtree of Leaucaena is a problem weed in this creek and is destroying the habitat value and will lead to destabilisation of the creek banks due to competition with native trees and grasses.
Our goal is to rid this creek system of Leaucaena and other problem weeds and revegetate with native plants to improve amenity and habitat values.
